Shadow saw that Darlings trot was uneven but didn’t say anything. He led the way to their new home. Shadow stopped every once in a while to give Darling and her colt a rest, for he knew that the journey would be hard on them both. Shadow side stepped a bit when he felt Darling nip his shoulder but then stepped right back. He looked at Darling and smiled. “So what are you going to name him?” As they got closer Shadow could feel all the energy in him. When they got there he reared up and let out a big squeal of delight. He was happy to be home and happy that he now had member of his heard. When he landed he turned to Darling and her colt and said, “Welcome home. The land will provide everything we need.” Kiba lead them to the river where there was plenty of fresh water and green grass. “Hope you like it here.” Kiba waited till Darling and her colt had had enough to drink before he dipped his head and drank some. Then he went and grazed with them enjoying the day.

Darling smiled as they reached the new lands. It had been so long since she had been this free with merely no boundries. She stopped here and there to bite at the grass happily before she spoke back to Shadow, the thought of her colt living without a name buried in her heart she couldn't think until she knew it. Life. Hers was almost taken and his was almost never started. Both the white mare and roaned colt were given a chance here with their lives. Not only was their lives treasured at this time, but Shadow helped them get this far, and the white mare knew he would make sure they would were safe as they grew older, just as she would help do as the herd grew older, and larger in time. She stopped by the water's edge and took long and silent drinks from it, the water slipping down her throat felt good and it helped to revive the old mares life line again, even as she watched Life lay down nearby. She picked her head up from the water. "Life. And it is beautiful here Shadow. It truely is."

Shadow was happy to see Darling eat and drink. “That is a wonderful name. It will fit him perfectly. Thank you, I thought it was beautiful to. That is why I had claimed it.” Shadow looked around. He loved the open skies and plenty of room to run yet there was protection from the weather. “So…now that the heard is started all that needs to be done is have it grow.” Shadow thought for a while. “Well seeing as the position of lead mare is not filled would you like to be the lead mare?” He took a few steps toward Darling and held his head high with his ears forward. Every now and then he would stomp his foot to get the flies off of his legs. He swooshed his tail back and forward trying to hit flies also.

Darling looked at the black stallion in amazement. She had always been the leader for many things, but she had not expected this, even as she watched him with his head raised before her. "Shadow. I don't know if I would be long enough to help lead your herd as you can tell. I have struggled carring Life for months, and now I fight for my own life to live." She stepped away from the water to him and nudged his chest with her nose. "But I can try with pleasure." She nickered softly to him as she lifted her head as well, but her head was still shorter than his as she looked at the stallion. She would love to be lead mare, but her words were true because she wasn't sure she could take both the lead, life and her colt all at once, but she'd fight if she had to to survive with the herd she was now part of.

Shadow could see the surprise on Darlings face. Shadow listened and he understood that she might not last long enough to see the heard grow, but he wanted her to help make it grow. Yet he also knew he wasn’t going to make her do something she didn’t want to do. He watched her walk away from the water towards him and then she nudged his chest with her nose. Shadow bent his neck and nudged her softly, and then he nickered. “I am pleased to hear that you will try. I just don’t ever wish to make you do something you would not want to do.” Shadow then bowed his head to the new lead mare. “We can take it easy till you get better if you would like. It is up to you.” Shadow then nickered back and then looked at Life. Shadow had great hopes for this heard.
