Two large draft horses and a young draft colt stood together away from the barn near the farther fence that pinned the three in the smaller two acre paddock. One was heavily pregnant and struggled to stand while the two younger ones she was pinned with showed their bones, the youngest showed them the most. Holding her head low, the eight year old white shire gave a sigh as she closed her eyes and flicked her ears to listen as the colt nudged her side gently to nurse from the weakened mare. The larger mare, a two year old Clydesdale lifted her head from where she hung it to flick her ears around and give a loud neigh, that was echoed by the young colt that now stood between the mares. The dirt under them flung up when the white mare stomped her back hoof and the oldest juvenline took a few steps back with her head thrown back.

Suko was in a controlled gallop. He had heard the cry of a horse that sounded if it needed help. He had just claimed teritory but was looking for mares to bring in and he couldn't ignore a distress call. Especialy if it is a possible mare. He slowed down to a trot. The wind was piking up and he smelled humans. Judging from the smell the humans hadn't been around for months at least so it would be safe to come close. After a few more minuets, Suko came to the rotting shell of a human habitation looking prone to fall at any time. Giving it a wide berth he whent to the back and found the source of the call. Three draft horses, one male colt and two females, one heavily pregnant, where penned up together and not a pretty sight to see. Making up his mind, SUko whent up to the fence. Rain had coroded it enogh that a good solid kick in one or two places should nock it down. Finding two likley points, he turned around and gave a mighty kick with his back legs. The fence groaned and crecked but didn't give yet. Repositioning himself ant the second point he repeated the feat. With a satisfactory snap and thud, the fence fell with enough space to let the others out. Turning to them he spoke for the first time, "I have given you freedom, if you wish, you can come with me to my teratory, or go on your own way" finishing he stopped and stood there, waiting for the answer.

The younger of the three drafts threw his head back and reared slightly as he watched another convince the fence to give way. He gave off a soft cry of satisfaction but didn't move from the white mare's side as she watched with amusement. Darling had to give the stallion credit for helping them get out, but she didn't dare to move far at this time, due to the fact that a pain unseen had started aching throughout her body. She wan't to lay down, but didn't dare to for any reason. Dust on the other hoof, threw her head up with a proud whinny and trotted up to the stallion with a bow of her head, she thanked him. "Thank you, but I will not go if she dare not to move. I can tell she is in much pain now, and weakened." The black mare looked toward the mare that had cared for her as one of her own as the white mare kept her head low.

Suko watched the three. The white mare was not moving, the colt would not leave her and the other mare thanked him but didn't whant to leave her companions side. He bobed his head up and down in acknoledgement. "Very well. If that is your disition, i will not force anyone. If you change your mind, just follow my scent trail. I will probebly be in the area for a few days, then leave for my home grounds. you are welcome to join me at any time and that is for all of you. For now, i shall take my leave." He turned around and with one look behind him, made a steady trot away. So far the search had found him three posibles, but no yeses. He slowed to a walk as he went through the tree line and disapeard into the forest. He would wait a week at most, then he has to run or risk losing his herding ground.

Darling looked at her companions. "You should have gone." She nickered to Dustie as she lifted her head, then took a pain ful step forward. "Not without you."Cale snorted before the two year old could and nudged Darling's shoulder. Dustie walked up to the white mare and nickered into her mane. "We will go, but hope to see you there soon Mom. You have taught us well, and we won't give up on you." The black draft horse looked at the one she called mom since she was born before turning to look at the Friesian colt."Let's go." She told him as she turned and the two black drafts cantered off after the stallion that let them free in the first place. Uptop a hill, the young colt stopped and looked back as the white mare walked slowly from the pen, pain in her eyes. He could hear Dustie's loud call through the still air clearly from where she stood at the bottom of the hill, watching the surroundings. Darling walked slowly after them, her sides heaving and swaying slowly. She lifted her head when she heard Dustie, and responded with her own call.

Shadow in the Night heard some calls and decided to look into it. On his way he saw a brown and white stallion walking in the other direction but thought nothing of it for all he cares about is helping out others. As he got closer to where the calls were coming from he spotted a skinny black mare with white markings and black colt walking in the direction that the stallion was going but then he heard another horse call again so he decided to go and see who it was and why they were not with the others. As he approached the source he noticed a barn with a fenced in area with a section of fence knocked down. Inside the fenced in area is a white mare. Shadow noticed that she is in great pain so he decided to see what is going on.
"You must be in great pain. What can I do to help?"

Suko was walking along at a steady speed when he heard someone aproching. Turning around, he could make out two horses aproching from the direction of the old stable. It was the black mare and the young colt. The white mare that was with them wasn't around which puzzled the stallion as he was told they wouldn't leave each others company. He waited till they had joined at his side then asked, "Where is your third companion, will she be joining us later?" He wasn't greedy, just concerned that one of the mares had stayed behind, especialy one that was in pain. Some might call him a gentalman, but he was just genuinly concerned for the welfare of any horses that he comes across. Even ones that whern't his or belong to a rival stallion.

The two black drafts soon caught up with Suko, the colt slightly out of breath. "She told us to come, she'd be on her way soon enough." Dustie nickered with a bob of her head as Cale side-stepped so that he was close to the mare. Darling looked up at the new stallion when she heard him approaching. "I will be fine once I reach a safe place to foal. Hopefully a place that is green at this time." She said in a weak voice. She let her ears drift backwards slightly as it felt as if the ground started to shake under her. With everystep the white mare took, it put her in even more pain, and made her even more weaker. Cale look behind him to see if he could see the great large white mare, but there was no one behind them, just the remains of the old barn roof top could be seen, so he let out a cry for her, with no response. After a little while of waiting, he followed the older two horses.

Shadow felt bad for the mare so he decided to stay with her and help her go where she wanted to go. He would also protect her. As long as it was ok with her. He stood next to her so that she could lean against him if she needed. He might be looking for mares but he was not interested at that this moment. All that mattered to him right then was the welfare of this mare and her future foal. He was to much of a gentleman.
"If it is alright with you I would like to stay and help you where I can." He hated leaving others when they needed any kind of help. He was just hoping that she would accept it before it was to late for both her and her unborn baby. "I will even help you to where ever you wish to foal and protect both of you from all the dangers that if I can." Shadow that does a low bow. "Your wish is my command." He then looks up at her and gives her a really big smile.

Darling bowed her chin a little bit in return, but did not falture her steps in any way. She slowly took a few steps forward, her tail flicking at her knees as she walked. Looking back at the stallion who offered help, with a soft nicker the white mare waited quietly as her muscles shook as she continued to struggle just to stand on her own. The skin that looked as if it just drapped over her twitched in misery. Just standing there, she could feel her unborn foal kick, and it only caused her even bigger pain, but it didn't show in her body, just her eyes. She heaved a breath as seh took even more steps forward, toward the awful place she lived at right now. The palce seh was born was no longer a safe place for her, nor another animal that breathed, but big and small.

Shadow watched as Darling started to walk away and then nickered softly looking at him. As she walked he stayed at Darlings side the whole time for support and to make sure that her legs wouldn't buckle underneath her and wind up hurting both the mother and her baby. He wished that there was more he could do but there is not much he could do. He watches her with worry in his eyes. He might know next to nothing about her but he still cares and wishes to do anything for her.
"How far along are you?"
He sees the pain flash in her eyes and his thoughts went straight to the foal kicking. 'Wow must be a strong little one.'
"If you need to you can lean against me as much as you want." He gives her a smile but not as big as the last one.

Darling took another painful step forward. "Too far." She nickered gently as she pressed on. Everytime she stepped, pain seared through her, and she leaned slightly into the stallion who had come to offer her help. "And who might you be?" She asked as she looked at the black stallion next to her. Pain flashed in her eyes again as her side rippled and the foal moved. At this point, she knew she wasn't going to make it much further away from the abandoned ranch. The one place she had grown weak in the first place. She gave a final soft neigh before her legs buckled under her, her side buldging and rippling as she collasped to the ground. She wanted to see this foal, but she was not sure if she was going to make it to even care for the foal herself. Instead, she laid her head on the ground with a painful neigh, her foal was on it's way.

Shadow moved right besides her helping her stand. "I am sorry to be rude. My name is Shadow in the Night...but you can call me Shadow." He looked at Darling and saw the pain flash in her eyes again. Before he could do anything Darling gave a soft neigh and her legs gave out. Shadow stayed where we was for a moment to make sure that she wast hurt and to see how she landed. Then he went and laid next to her to try and make her more comfortable while she gave birth to her little on. "Is there anything I can do to help?" He was worried for the mare and her baby. But he was also aware that she might not live much longer. He hoped that she would live and be able to see her baby. Every mother should have the opportunity to see their miracle. He nickered to her trying to help her in any way he could.

Dustie walked beside Cale and Suko, wondering how Darling was, and where they were going now that the two black drafts had been freed from the pen they were confined to before. Darling's side gave a ripple again when she heard Shadow nicker and felt him lay down beside her. She tried to lift her head to look at him, but couldn't with all the pain. She heaved a few breaths as she tried to control her breathing, but couldn't very well throught out the intire foaling. By the end, both the great white Shire and her foal barely moved. Only Darling's soft breathing showed that she was still alive, but now every single bone in her body showed, and almost all of her energy had been wiped from her body, but the roan colored foal wasn't even breathing at this time.

Shadow helped Darling in anyway he could. After the foal was born he saw just how skinny Darling was. The first thought that went through his head was that they both need to live. The second was that he needed to get them food but that would have to wait till he made sure that both of them would live. He kept watching both the mare and the foal. Darling was still alive but as for the foal he was not a hundred percent sure. As far as he could see the little one was not breathing. He nickered to the white mare as he got up. He walked over to the foal hoping he could do something to make start breathing. Not really sure of what he should do Shadow gently nudged the foal to try and rouse it.
